HOMEWORK

Homework is set by class teachers on Fridays, and will commonly include some Maths and some English, giving more practice on something which has been taught in class. It is expected that this work will take a minimum of 45 minutes for the average child in Y3, increasing to a minimum of an hour in Y6. We ask parents to see that school books are treated carefully and are returned to school promptly and in good order.

In addition, many children will bring home reading books as part of the homework scheme and parents are asked to hear their children read as often as possible, but at least for about 10 minutes three times a week.

Parents can also help by teaching their children “the tables”or play number games on long journies. For advice on this or other mathematical issues, please speak with the class teacher.

HELPING YOUR CHILD AT HOME

There are many ways you can help your child at home.

Make sure that your child goes to bed at a reasonable time and doesn’t spend all his or her spare time watching TV, especially unsuitable videos.

Make sure that homework gets done and is handed in on time.

Read with your child as often as possible.

Use time such as long car journeys to learn times tables (see above)

Encourage your child by praising their success as often as you can.
