OUR BEHAVIOUR POLICY

We place great stress at Honeywell on the encouragement of self-discipline and self-reliance and we expect children to be polite and well mannered at all times.

The School rules are based on a common sense regard for the health, safety and general well-being of the School community. In particular, children are not allowed to run in the building, to bring chewing gum to School, or to bring knives, toy guns, or any kind of weapon to School. Some sanctions such as detentions during playtime, or loss of privileges are imposed when necessary, but corporal punishment is NEVER used. Parents will be informed promptly, and involved, if we feel that any child has serious behaviour difficulties.

MEETING THE TEACHERS

There is an Open Evening each term, when we hope you will come in, look at your child’s work, and discuss progress. We are always happy to see you at other times. Most teachers are here before and after normal school hours, but if you want a lengthy talk rather than a quick chat it would be wise to send a note asking for an appointment.

You can often see the headteacher by calling in at the office, but it may be wiser to phone to make an appointment.

MEDICAL AND HEALTH

If your child feels ill while at school we will attempt to assess their health and, if necessary, contact you to collect them. Similarly, if your child has an accident we will deal with it if simple first aid is all that is required, but will contact you if it is more serious. Six of the school staff are trained in First Aid.

If your child has particular medical problems, please let us know. Asthmatic children should have at least one inhaler in school, which they keep with them at all times. It helps if the inhalers have the child’s name on. Staff are trained in the use of an epipen for use with children who suffer from anaphylactic shock; we like to have two epipens for the child - one with the child and the other kept centrally.

Medicine should not be brought to school unless the doctor prescribes a dosage of more than 3 times a day. Parents are then asked to make arrangements with the Headteacher.

The school doctor and nurse visit regularly. Children may be examined at parents' request, or at teachers' request. Attendance of parents at medicals is vital.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THE SCHOOL HAS A TELEPHONE NUMBER WHERE PARENTS OR OTHER RESPONSIBLE ADULTS CAN BE CONTACTED AT ANY TIME IN AN EMERGENCY.

ABSENCE FROM SCHOOL

Regular attendance is very important in helping children make steady progress. Obviously, sick children should not be in School but we rely on parents’ common sense to discourage excessive absence. If a child is away, please send a message as soon as possible, preferably the first day. It is often easier to leave a message on the answering machine or, if you have the facility, to fax or e-mail us. A short explanatory note should also be sent with the child on his/her return to school please.

Children who are persistently absent or late will be referred to the Educational Welfare Service.

Punctuality is a great help in the smooth running of the School. We hope that children will be in the playground a few minutes before School starts.

All parents are sent an annual record of their child/ren's absence and punctuality record at the ned of the academic year.

We do not encourage the taking of holidays in term time. Permission may be given in extraordinary circumstances, but this is nearly always disruptive to your child’s education. If a term time holiday is inevitable we like the children to compile a holiday scrapbook and diary while they are away.

BRINGING YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL AND COLLECTING THEM AGAIN

The normal procedure is that children arrive in the playground just before 9.00. A bell is rung and the children line up in their classes on the correct coloured lines. For the first few days of the year there will be some chairs with the class names on to show the children where to line up. The teachers then come and collect the children.
